Three-Step Heroism

Here's how to become a rebel fighter in a fantasy book in three easy steps. First - and you're not going to like this - you have to see your family offed right in front of you. Sorry, that's just part of the game. 

Second, you have to acquire an ancient but awesome combat skill by training until your nose bleeds. When you're tired and/or grievously wounded, just think about your family - that'll get you up and at 'em again.

And lastly, you have to journey to a mystical, legendary mountain and stumble upon a mystical, legendary band of fighters who just so happen to need practitioners of the ancient combat skill you have now mastered. This step involves a lot of lucky coincidences, but when you're this close to being a fantasy hero, probability bends in your favor! Before long, you'll rise to power within your band of fighters and lead them on a risky, but ultimately triumphant mission to finally avenge your family.
